Kirsten Slungaard Mumma is an assistant professor of economics and education at Teachers College, Columbia University. She was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the Wheelock Educational Policy Center at Boston University. She also worked with Rocketship Education, a charter management organization in California, and with Chicago Public Schools. Her research examines how educational programs and policies shape economic, social, and political outcomes, with a focus on immigrant and English learner education, the intersection of politics and education, and K–12 school choice. Her work has been published in the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy and featured in The Washington Post, Education Week, and Chalkbeat. Slungaard Mumma earned her AB in English language and literature from Harvard College and both an MEd in education policy and management and a PhD in education policy and program evaluation from Harvard University.
